Rolling Meadows police receive accreditation

The Rolling Meadows Police Department has received Tier 1 accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

The designation verifies that the department "has policies, procedures and daily routines that are in full compliance with the professional standards of modern law enforcement," according to a certificate the department was awarded.

To receive accreditation, the department underwent a two-day, on-site assessment from two independent assessors: Lt. Jeff Hamer from the Macomb Police Department and Deputy Chief Steven Weatherford from the Illinois Commerce Commission Police Department. They interviewed officers and the public and went on ride-alongs, according to Chief John Nowacki, who also had to show the department was compliant with 67 Tier 1 standards.

Des Plaines Police Chief Bill Kushner, who is vice president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, presented Nowacki the award of accreditation at this week's Rolling Meadows City Council meeting.
