3 years in prison for Aurora man after weapons, cocaine bust

An Aurora man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty this week to charges stemming from a January police raid in which two handguns and cocaine were seized.

Sean T. Bowman, of the 300 block of Evans Avenue, pleaded guilty Thursday before Kane County Judge Kathryn Karayannis to one count each of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, both felonies, according to court records.

Each charge carried a sentence ranging from three to seven years in prison.

Bowman was arrested the morning of Jan. 23 after police executed a search warrant and seized a .45-caliber handgun, a 9 mm handgun and 3.62 grams of cocaine, authorities said.

Police said Bowman also had three outstanding arrest warrants and he was on probation after pleading guilty in January 2018 to felony unlawful restraint and misdemeanor domestic battery from an arrest in February 2017. Bowman was sentenced to two years of probation and fined $2,020 as part of the guilty plea in which prosecutors dismissed the most severe charges of aggravated domestic battery, records show.

Under state law, Bowman can have his prison term cut in half for good behavior. He also gets credit for 233 days held at the Kane County jail while the case was pending and must pay $3,600 in court fines and fees.
