Mount Prospect Fire Department open house set for Sept. 28

The Mount Prospect Fire Department is hosting its 2019 open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Police and Fire Headquarters, 112 E. Northwest Highway.

The free event will feature activities for all ages, including a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog, fire trucks, ambulances and special rescue vehicles, a firefighter obstacle course, fire pole slides, special teams demonstrations and fire safety and emergency

preparedness programs. The department also will offer a free lunch to visitors.

The open house is a preview to Fire Prevention Week, which runs Oct. 6-12. The theme of this year's campaign is "Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!" The goal is to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe. In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out.
