Girls volleyball: Linbo carries Grant past Warren in 3 sets

Junior middle blocker Jazzlyn Linbo had 12 kills, 4 blocks and 3 aces, and Grant outlasted visiting Warren 25-18, 17-25, 25-11 in nonconference girls volleyball action Wednesday night.

Junior setter Grace Olszowka dished out 30 assists and also had an ace for the Bulldogs. Junior opposite Olivia Finlayson added 7 kills, 4 digs and 2 aces for Grant, and junior middle blocker Anelise Johnson tallied 3 blocks.

Warren was led by Alayna Malec's 8 kills and Kayleigh Glickley's 14 assists. Faith Powell had 3 kills for the Blue Devils, and Ellie Columbus notched 18 digs.

Lakes d. Deerfield: Kelli Rettig and Ashley Smith each had 9 kills, and as the host Eagles won 25-22, 28-26 in nonconference action.

Devinn Bell delivered 21 assists and also tallied 3 kills and 5 digs. Rettig added 6 aces and 8 digs, while Smith collected 6 digs. Lakes (6-2) also received 5 digs from Allison Stover and 3 kills from Emma Martinez.

Vernon Hills d. Leyden: The Cougars captured their home opener 25-14, 25-13, as freshman Alexa Cieslinski and senior Marta Glyvka had 7 and 6 kills. respectively.

Junior setter Abby Wisniewski ran a balanced and effective offense, distributing 19 assists on 45-of-46 setting.

"Behind the strong defense of freshman libero Elli Amjadi, the Cougars kept the ball alive and the hitters made smart swings on the ball," Vernon Hills coach Arian Colton said. "It was a great team effort."

Amjadi registered 10 digs. Junior Taylor Proft added 5 kills for Vernon Hills, and junior Daniella Jarrell had four. Wisniewski also served 4 aces.

Hersey d. Stevenson: Despite 13 kills from Amanda Holsen, the Patriots dropped the nonconference match 22-25, 25-12, 25-20.

Lily Cozzi and Makayla Uremovich had 8 and 6 kills, respectively, for Stevenson (4-3). Grace Tully tallied 27 assists, 2 aces and 3 kills. Emerson Kouri had a team-best 8 digs for the Patriots.

Woodstock d. Wauconda: Nicole Callahan had 3 kills and 8 digs for the visiting Bulldogs in their 25-21, 25-21 nonconference loss.

Emily Johnson posted 2 aces, 2 kills and 6 digs for Wauconda (3-5). Riley Aldrich contributed 2 kills and 4 assists.
