Girls volleyball: Stevenson tops Barrington in two sets
Defending Mid-Suburban League champion Barrington opened it season on Tuesday against traditional Lake County powerhouse Stevenson.
The host Patriots outscored the Fillies 25-18, 25-22 in the nonconference match.
Leading the Fillies on attack was Noelle Daehler (4 kills) while Amelia Sigaev and Alyssa Rodda each served aces. Sigaev also handed out 10 assists while Jessica Horwath had 9 digs.
Niles North d. Buffalo Grove: Visiting Niles North posted a 14-25, 25-16, 25-19 victory over defending Mid-Suburban East co-champion Buffalo Grove (0-1) which was led on attack by Shannon Coglianese (7 kills) and Megan Mitsunaga (6 kills).
Hannah Arbitman and Ella McBride each served 4 aces for BG.
Round Lake d. Hoffman Estates: Round Lake pulled out a 23-25, 25-5, 25-13 over host Hoffman Estates (0-1) which received 8 kills from Patricia Wadas and 56 digs from Ashley Poland.
Lake Forest d. Wheeling: Lake Forest posted a 25-21, 25-13 over visiting Wheeling (0-1) which received 4 kills apiece from Ally Ferraro, Emily LaCaeyse and Grace Zambrano. Emma Sternquist had 8 assists and 2 aces while Johana Veloso collected 7 digs.
