Rolling Meadows teen attends Robotics Academy in Alabama

• Corinne Love of Rolling Meadows recently attended Robotics Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), while training students with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and decision-making.

This program is specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for programming and engineering. Using the Office of Naval Research's SeaPerch undersea robotics, Corinne and her teammates strengthened teamwork and leadership skills while learning engineering, programming and wireless control concepts using Lego Mindstorms EV3 technology, testing payloads on unmanned aerial vehicles and creating and piloting underwater robots.

• With nearly 15 years in building level administrative experience, Julie Fogarty has taken on the role of director of curriculum for Des Plaines Community Consolidated School District 62, responsible for supporting student learning through curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Fogarty served as principal of Forest Elementary School for 12 years before becoming principal of Algonquin Middle School in 2017. Prior to joining District 62, Fogarty served as an assistant principal/building assistant for four years in Community Consolidated School District 15, Palatine, and was a second-grade teacher at Harlem Consolidated School District 122 in Machesney Park.

Fogarty earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Clarke College in 1992 and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University in 1997. She later received a doctoral degree in education from Loyola University in 2011.

• Elgin Area School District U-46 has named Charlotte Coleman principal at Kimball Middle School in Elgin. Coleman was previously principal of Nature Ridge Elementary School in Bartlett since 2013.

Coleman first joined the District U-46 as a teacher in 2005, then served as the assistant principal of Nature Ridge Elementary before taking the top job there. Prior to joining U-46, Coleman was a teacher and then curriculum coordinator for the Hattiesburg Public Schools in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Coleman holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a Master of Science degree from Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She also holds a master's degree in general administration from Northern Illinois University, and is working toward her superintendent endorsement from Aurora University.

• U.S. Air Force Airman Jaylon D. Clark graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Clark is a 2019 graduate of William Fremd High School, Palatine.

• Des Plaines Toastmasters 1645 recently inducted six new officers: President Theresa Arcega of Skokie; Vice President of Education Cathy Stroh of Arlington Heights; Vice President of Membership Ayako Gilkeson of Des Plaines; Vice president of Public Relations Ralph Dellar of Park Ridge; Secretary Terry Przbylski of Des Plaines; and Treasurer Teresa Powell of Des Plaines.

Membership in Toastmasters is open to adults ages 18 and older who are committed to improving their communications and leadership abilities. Des Plaines Toastmasters 1645 meets the first and third Mondays on the month at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood.
