Community Connections Center Celebrating 10 Year Anniversary

The Mount Prospect Community Connections Center is celebrating their 10 Year anniversary this month. An anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, August 17, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. at the Community Connections Center, 1711 W. Algonquin Rd. in Mount Prospect. Residents are invited to join the party, which will be held outside to accommodate the crowd, for a fun event with food and activities for the whole family.

The Village of Mount Prospect considered developing a resource center in the south area of town for many years. Thanks to support from the Chicago Community Trust, the Center became a reality in 2009. The vision of the Center is to create a healthy Mount Prospect community by providing a pathway to Village services, social services, medical health, personal safety, library services, quality education, economic self-sufficiency, jobs, cultural enrichment and other services for all residents.

Residents can access a whole range of Human Services and other Village services at the Center including Public Health Nursing and Social Services, group programming and food pantry assistance. In addition, the Center offers parenting classes, English language conversation, a Play and Learn program for pre-school age children and more.

"We understand that transportation is a barrier for many residents in the area," said Esther Martinez, Deputy Director of Human Services. That is why it's so important to offer all of the same services at the Center that residents have access to at our Village Hall location."

"The Center has a history of success," said Human Services Director Julie Kane. "After opening in 2009, the Center was expanded in 2012 to accommodate the demand for programming and services."

Partnerships are also vital to the Center. "In addition to our partnership with the Mount Prospect Public Library, which operates the South Branch of the library and programming at this location, we also value our relationships with Community Consolidated School District 59 and WINGS which also offer classes and programming at the Center," Kane stated.
