Lake Park High School receives $463,000 solar rebate from ComEd

On July 25, Lake Park High School District 108 received a check for over $463,000 from ComEd for going solar, ComEd's largest solar rebate check to-date.

In 2017, Lake Park High School celebrated the completion of two solar photovoltaic systems, making it one of the first public school districts in Illinois to adopt solar power on a large scale.

Energy conservation measures at Lake Park West and Lake Park East high schools included new energy efficient vertical classroom units, lighting upgrades, and a cooling tower replacement.

Both high schools also have roof-mounted solar panels expected to generate 1.86 megawatts of clean energy.

The declining installation cost of solar has made these changes cost effective for the district and will result in an estimated net savings of $5.1 million over 25 years.

State Sen. Laura Murphy (28th District) joined ComEd's Scott Vogt, vice president of energy policy, to present the rebate check to Barb Layer, president of the Lake Park High School District 108 board of education.
