Lane closures ahead in downtown Mount Prospect

Left turn lanes from Central Road on to Main Street in downtown Mount Prospect will be closed for about five days beginning Tuesday, the village announced Monday.

The closure is needed because the Illinois Department of Transportation is making traffic signal improvements at the intersection. The work will include the installation of handholes to access buried wiring in the left turn lanes on all sides of the intersection.

When the Central Road left turn lane work is completed, IDOT will reopen the lanes and close the Main Street left turn lanes. The Main Street lanes will then remain closed for approximately five days while crews perform signal upgrade work.

The left turn movement will be allowed while the left turn lanes are closed. However, the queue length, or space allowed for cars waiting to turn left, will be very short. Consequently, turning left will be difficult and drivers should expect delays.

The village recommends that drivers utilize alternative routes, such as Northwest Highway, Rand Road, Kensington Road or Arlington Heights Road, during the next two weeks.
