Police say man attempted to lure child into car in Wheaton

A man attempted to lure a child mowing a lawn in Wheaton Tuesday, authorities said.

According to Wheaton police, the boy was mowing his front lawn at 11:45 a.m. in the 200 block of S. Pierce when he was approached by a man in a black SUV with black rims and tinted windows.

The male driver asked the juvenile to mow his lawn and invited the juvenile into the vehicle. The male driver then retracted the offer after the juvenile said a parent would have to drive him, police said.

The child described the driver as being in his 40s with an average build, unshaven and with medium black hair. He was last seen wearing a gray/white hooded sweatshirt.

Police do not believe this event has a connection to an earlier report of an attempted child abduction in the 300 block of S. Pierce.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Wheaton Police Department Lieutenant Bill Cooley at (630) 260-2077.
