Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars awards 12 scholarships

The Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars awarded 12 scholarships to recipients on Friday, June 21, for the 2019-2020 school year. Eight of the students were present at the ceremony and they spoke in front of their parents and the board of directors about of how grateful they were for the organization's financial help.

The Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars Chapter represents students in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Wheeling. Since 1998, the Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars has assisted 160 students totaling $415,000.

The George and Christine Winandy Academic Scholarships were awarded to students majoring in science, math, computer technology, education, music or nursing. The Winandys were present for the award celebration and chatted with the winners Katrina Maktaz, Amanda Talalaj and Viktorio Tzarevski.

Through the generosity of George and Christine Winandy, $40,000 has been donated over the years.

This year's recipient of The Charles E. Priester Four-Year Renewable Award was Gurleen Kaur, Wheeling High School, 2019. Past recipients, Omar Roman, Kayley Te and Anthony LoCasio are still recipients of this renewable award.

One-Year Academic Scholarships were presented to: Miglena Boshnakova, John Hersey High School, 2019; Taylor Chantry, Prospect High School, 2018; John Dattilo, John Hersey High School, 2019; Stefan Kamzol, Wheeling High School, 2017; Faith Lindell, Prospect High School, 2018; Jessica Stavros, Wheeling High School, 2019; Emili Tchorz, John Hersey High School, 2019; and Lori Vitaioli, Buffalo Grove High School, 2017.
