Lake Forest Swim Club Coach Named To World Championship Team

Lake Forest, IL - The USA Swimming National Team heads to Gwangju, South Korea, later this month for the

18th World Swimming Championships with Lake Forest Swim Club Coach Laurel Whittington leading the way.

This is Coach Laurel's 7th assignment with the National Team and 4th World Championship assignment. She was

also a member of the 2016 US Olympic Team staff.

"It's always an honor to work with USA Swimming and the best of our best around

the world in competition. There's never a dull moment and I have so many great

memories to share when I return. The year before the Olympics (Tokyo, August

2020) brings out the best in everyone at the competition and I can't wait for Team

USA to give the world fair warning of what to expect in Tokyo," says Coach

Whittington.

Laurel's previous experience on the global stage includes the US Olympic Team

(2016, Rio de Janerio), World University Games (2017, Taipei), and the World

Championship Team (2015, Kazan, 2012, Istanbul, 2011 Shanghai). "Every

competition has been a learning experience," according to Laurel, "and I become

a better coach for my team each time I work with our National Team."

"We are extremely proud of Coach Laurel and all that she has accomplished," said LFSC Head Coach, Michael

Lawrence. "This honor reflects the confidence that USA Swimming has in her leadership skills and her ability to

create a winning environment for our team. International competition and travel is hard work but we are

equally confident that she is up to the challenge."
