Wheaton Municipal Band concert season continues

The Wheaton Municipal Band season is in full swing with a series of summer concerts. Here's a look at what's coming up in the next few weeks in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave.:

• 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27: "Sheldon Conducts" features the music of composer Robert Sheldon, director of Concert Band Publications for Alfred Music. More than 2 million copies of his compositions have been sold to band educators throughout the world.

• 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2: "Independence Day Celebration: A Tribute to John Philip Sousa" features John Locke, director of bands emeritus at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, who has designed a "Sousa-Style" program, including all of the traditional patriotic favorites.

• 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11: "The Healing Power of Music" features Alex Kaminsky, director of bands at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, to share the healing power of music in times of unimaginable tragedy.
