Chicago White Sox's Anderson still trying to get back into swing of things
Nearly three hours before Monday afternoon's game against the Kansas City Royals, it sure looked like Tim Anderson was getting ready to play for the Chicago White Sox.
Taking infield practice, Anderson scooped up one groundball after another and looked completely healthy making throws across the diamond.
Hitting is still a problem for Anderson, who missed his third straight game with a sore right wrist.
Monday's game against Kansas City was suspended with two outs in the fifth inning after two rain delays.
"Swinging is the toughest right now, but today was better," Anderson said. "I swung a little bit and felt a lot better."
In Friday's game at Minnesota, Anderson was hit on the right wrist while swinging at a pitch from Twins starter Jose Berrios.
If Anderson is able to play Tuesday night against the Royals, he will face starter Brad Keller.
In an April 19 game at Guaranteed Rate Field, Anderson homered off Keller and launched his bat at the White Sox's dugout. In his next at-bat, Anderson was hit by a Keller pitch, which nearly incited a brawl.
Anderson was suspended for one game, Keller for five.
"We'll see how I feel tomorrow," Anderson said. "It's been getting better every day, so there's nothing to worry about."
Jay update:
Jon Jay has yet to play in a game for the White Sox this season, but the veteran outfielder said he is feeling better and getting closer to a return.
"Everything's progressing well," Jay said Monday.
After playing in extended spring training for three weeks, Jay is back in Chicago being re-evaluated. If everything checks out, the next step is a minor-league rehab assignment.
"I'm dying to go out there and play some baseball, which is what I love to do," Jay said. "We're definitely taking the right steps."
Catching up:
With Welington Castillo on the seven-day concussion list, manager Rick Renteria indicated James McCann is going to catch starters Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Ivan Nova.
Seby Zavala, who came up from Class AAA Charlotte to replace Castillo, is likely to catch Dylan Covey and Manny Banuelos.
