Mount Prospect to Host Mental Health Awareness Community Event
The Mount Prospect Human Services Department is hosting a Mental Health Awareness Community Event on Thursday, May 30, from 5 - 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson Street.
The event is being held in observance of May as Mental Health Awareness month, as a way to increase awareness and reduce stigma around mental health issues impacting adolescents, adults and seniors. One in five adults in the U.S. experience a mental health condition in a given year, and many face barriers in getting treatment.
"There is a wealth of resources available to residents and their families who may be dealing with mental health concerns. We want people to know they are not alone, and there are organizations in the community that can help," said Esther Martinez of the Mount Prospect Human Services Department.
The event will include a Resource Fair from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., with local mental health providers offering information about their services. From 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., there will be speakers and a Q&A Session.
Participating agencies include: NAMI Northwest Suburban, In-Home Counseling, Prospect High School, Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Alexian Center for Mental Health, Kenneth Young Center, Lutheran Social Services, Mount Prospect Police Department and Village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department.
