Baseball: Gadomski's walk-off wins it for Schaumburg

Justin Gadomski's two-out pinch-hit 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday lifted Schaumburg's baseball team to a 2-0 win over Marmion in the opening round of the Class 4A Schaumburg regional.

Gadomski's round-tripper also scored Kevin Schoefernacker, who drew a walk earlier in the inning.

The win puts the 16th-seeded Saxons (11-20) against No. 3 South Elgin in a Wednesday semifinal.

Jake Golliher went six innings on the mound for Schaumburg Monday, allowing just 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks. Peter Kandefer pitched the top of the seventh and was credited with the win.

Hersey 6, Zion-Benton 0: Hunter Luke went six innings, allowing just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and a walk as 12th-seeded Hersey (17-15) advanced in the Class 4A Fremd regional. The Huskies take on the fifth-seeded host Vikings Thursday in a semifinal. Jake Irwin had a double for Hersey in Monday's win and Trey Schmidt drove in 2 runs.

Leyden 13, Lincoln Park 0: In the Class 4A Lane Tech regional, 13th-seeded Leyden (13-17) got 2 hits including doubles from Uli Hernandez (2 RBI) and Daniel Flores (4 RBI) to advance to a Wednesday semifinal against No. 3 seed Maine South. Also producing for the Eagles Monday were Alex Duarte (2B), Marco Guzman (2B), Matt Hagerstrom (2B, RBI) and Danny Determann (3B, RBI). Daniel O'Brien was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Highland Park 11, Rolling Meadows 1: Joe Marcucci had a double for Meadows, which finished its season 5-23 with this loss at the Class 4A Stevenson regional.

Geneva 8, Conant 6: Down 7-0 after four innings, Conant's comeback fell short at the Class 4A St. Charles North regional. Christian Seegers hit a 3-run home run for the Cougars (9-23) and Ryan Schar had 2 hits and an RBI).
