Softball: Palatine finishes regular season at 27-2

Mid-Suburban League softball champion Palatine didn't forget to bring its bats to Glenview on Friday.

The Pirates connected for 24 hits in an 18-11 win over Glenbrook South, one day after they defeated Hersey 4-2 for their first MSL crown in program history.

Rhiann Dick (24-1) entered the nonconference game in first inning with two outs and her team trailing 6-3.

The junior left-hander went on to earn the win as Palatine finished the regular season at 27-2.

The Pirates' hit parade was led by Grace Huff (4-for-6, 2 2B, 2 RBI), Kaitlyn Reed (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI), Amanda Stanczuk (3-for-4, HR, 5 RBI), Emily Brinckerhoff (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Dick (4-for-6, 4 RBI) and Anna Selleck (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI).

Fremd 5, Crystal Lake South 3: Playing under the lights at the Ballpark in Rosemont, Fremd's Kalyn McCarthy continued to light up the base paths.

The freshman shortstop stole a school record-setting 51st base, breaking the former mark set by Abby Iuorio (50).

McCarthy went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI while junior second baseman Sophia Crescio was also 2-for-3. Also getting hits for the Vikes (19-8) were sophomore Cali DiVito, freshman Elaina Kraus and junior McKenna Schneider.

Senior Hailey Hazlett threw a 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk to lift her record to 10-6.

Rolling Meadows 14, Highland Park 2 (5 inn.): Senior Elisa Kowalski (9-9) was the winning pitcher for visiting Rolling Meadows (17-12) in the nonconference game.

Caroline Slowik (3-for-3, 2B, RBI), Sara Benner (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI), Emily Schmidt (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Sam Allen (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) led the Mustangs' offense.
