Storm knocked out power, downed tree in DuPage County
Storms that combined high winds and hail downed trees and knocked out power early Friday morning in some portions of DuPage County.
Officials said the hardest-hit area is bordered by North Avenue on the north, Roosevelt Road on the south, Route 59 on the west and Route 83 on the east.
At one point, roughly 2,300 customers were without power, officials said.
No injuries were reported, however, and county officials said they aren't aware of any serious damage to buildings.
In Wheaton, city officials said they were receiving calls Friday from concerned residents who reported that roofing and tree companies are going door to door claiming to evaluate and offering to repair storm damage.
Officials urged residents to use caution when speaking with contractors and to always ask to see credentials, business licenses, and insurance documents. Anyone with questions or concerns should call police, they said.
