Streamwood man charged with child porn possession

A 39-year-old Streamwood man, who authorities say has a case pending for failure to register as a sex offender, was ordered held on $200,000 bail Friday after Naperville Police Department computer forensics expert discovered child pornography on the man's phone, prosecutors said.

On March 10, when Ronald Gablin was in police custody on an unrelated matter, Streamwood police recovered a cellphone, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ryan DeGroot said. A Naperville officer subsequently discovered 11 images showing children under age 13 engaged in sexual behavior, DeGroot said. The phone also had Gablin's personal contact information and texts from his family, DeGroot said.

Gablin was ordered to register as a sex offender after a 2011 conviction for possession of child pornography in Kane County, for which he was sentenced to 16 days in jail and 30 months' probation, DeGroot said. He also has a drug possession case pending in Chicago, he said.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone-Marisie ordered Gablin to have no contact with anyone under age 18 and to refrain from using a cellphone or the internet.

He next appears in court May 31.
