St. Isidore School names new principal

An educator with deep roots at St. Isidore School, Corinne Alimento, has been named principal at the Bloomingdale school and will begin work here this summer.

She will succeed Cyndi Collins, who is retiring at the end of the school year after serving as principal for the past 15 years.

Alimento has been principal at St. Paul Catholic School in Joliet for the past five years. Both schools are part of the Diocese of Joliet.

The principal search was guided by Karen Udell, assistant superintendent of the Joliet Diocesan Catholic Schools Office. She conducted a parishwide survey to determine the needs of St. Isidore, met with school faculty and staff, and oversaw a search committee of St. Isidore parish staff, school staff, parishioners and educators.

Alimento taught at St. Isidore for eight years before pursuing her administrative degrees and certifications and is a current St. Isidore parishioner.

A graduate of Elk Grove High School, she earned her undergraduate degree in secondary education from DePaul University and a master's in teaching and learning from St. Francis University in Joliet.

She went on to earn her educational leadership certification from DePaul and taught for four years in the Chicago Public Schools before joining St. Isidore in 2001 to teach Spanish, social studies and literature.

After receiving her administrative-related certifications, Alimento was hired as principal at Holy Family School in Bensenville, when St. Charles Borromeo School, Bensenville, merged with St. Joseph, Addison, to form Holy Family. She served as principal for five years before moving on to the position of principal at St. Paul in Joliet.

"I am so very excited to be returning to St. Isidore School, a place that I truly consider home," she said. "I have very big footsteps to follow in Mrs. Collins, who was my principal and mentor when I taught there, as well as Sandy Renehan, who originally hired me at St. Isidore, and was my first principal there before she moved on to the principal position at All Saints (Naperville).

"Working for these two really amazing administrators was truly my honor and privilege, as I learned so much from both of them."

Alimento and her husband, Mike, are Bartlett residents, along with daughters Casey, who will be a junior at South Elgin High School in the fall, and Carley, a graduating senior at South Elgin who will be a freshman at the University of Mississippi in the fall.

St. Isidore School, 431 W. Army Trail Road, is part of the Joliet Diocese and has been in existence since 1920. It has more than 250 students in preschool through eighth grade and a staff of 30 teachers, aides and administrators, more than 70% of whom hold master's degrees or above.
