New park opening Saturday in Mundelein

Mundelein Park & Recreation District will host a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, to open Holcomb Park at the corner of Goodwin Place and Holcomb Drive.

The half-acre park has two pieces of playground equipment, one for 2- to 5-year-olds and one for 5- to 12-year-olds, as well as swings, spring toys, diggers and benches. A portion of the property was a gift from the Pape family and the other piece had been abandoned by the owner and acquired by the park district with the village's assistance. A home and garage on the property was demolished in early 2018.

The opening means neighborhood residents no longer will have to drive to visit a park.
