Schaumburg Public Works to hold open house

From the snow removal that continued much longer than anyone liked this year to the road repairs about to resume in earnest, Schaumburg's engineering and public works department directly impacts most residents and visitors' lives more often than the police and fire departments do.

The critical, but too often overlooked, work of this important department will be highlighted during its free open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at its headquarters, 714 S. Plum Grove Road.

The family-friendly event will give residents an insider view of the skills and equipment used on a daily basis to keep the village's infrastructure maintained.

Among the activities for all ages are a touch-a-truck, equipment displays, information booths, demonstrations and giveaways. Snacks also will be provided.

Attendees also can "Load the Loader" through the village's partnership with the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Visitors are asked to bring nonperishable items to help those in need of them in the community.

Among the items most requested are cereal, juice, baby wipes, boxed dry pasta and rice, boxed or canned potatoes, canned vegetables, soups, pancake mix and syrup, baking products, condiments, paper products, and laundry and dish soap.

Those seeking more information about the open house can dial 311 from within Schaumburg or call (847) 895-4500 from outside the village.
