Naperville celebrates as Holzhauer's Jeopardy streak continues

Surrounded by family and friends in the cigar room of Quigley's Irish Pub in Naperville, Ian Holzhauer got about half of Friday's "Jeopardy!" questions wrong.

"For many of them, I didn't even have a clue. I'm terrible. The right brother is definitely on the show," said James Holzhauer's older brother. "He took home $82,000 today, so that's not a bad day."

James Holzhauer extended his winning streak to 22 days and his cash winnings to $1,691,005 after securing the Final Jeopardy win with the response "What is crowdfunding?"

As the room erupted in celebration at the final answer, Ian hit send on a video to his brother.

"I just sent him a video of what's going on here because this is pretty special to get our family and friends together to show this support," Ian said. "He's home in Vegas watching."

Several dozen supporters packed the cigar room and the rear corner of Quigley's cheering on Holzhauer's every correct answer as he again dominated the board.

"This is a really cool story for Naperville," said Jeremy Hammond, who came to watch Friday's episode. "I don't know him or anything, but this is amazing. We just wanted to be a part of the celebration."

Carrie Mazur, also of Naperville, said she's "not a 'Jeopardy!' nut or anything," but started tuning in when she realized Holzhauer was from her hometown and on a run.

"I'm usually still at work, so I've been checking social media and stuff to get updates," she said. "So it's cool to be here."

"Jeopardy!" now takes a two-week break for the show's teacher tournament. When it resumes, Holzhauer will be back on televisions throughout the suburbs.

But how long will his streak go? How much did he win on the show that wrapped production last month?

"He knows, but I don't think he's even told his wife. It's unbelievably tight," Ian Holzhauer said. "I didn't even know he was going to be on the show until three days before he was on."

Ian said charity is also benefiting from his brother's winnings. He said James has made donations to children's organizations in Las Vegas and locally, to Feed My Starving Children in Naperville.

"He's the most brilliant person I've ever known. I'm just happy he's been able to use that talent in a way that's fun," Ian Holzhauer said. "He's living out his dream and he's giving back to his community."
