Police: One of two men who robbed Crystal Lake gas stations found, charged
One of two men suspected of robbing two Crystal Lake gas stations has been arrested and charged, according to authorities.
Matthew J. Wegleiz, a 23-year-old from Cicero, was charged with two counts of felony armed robbery, according to a news release issued by Crystal Lake police on Tuesday.
Wegleiz and a companion - a 24-year-old Chicago man named Shaquille Davidson - robbed the Open Pantry Gas Station at 4811 Northwest Hwy. and the Circle K Gas Station at 280 N. Route 31 on the evening of March 24, according to police. In both cases, two men forcefully removed cash from the register before fleeing on foot. No injuries were reported in either robbery, according to the news release.
Wegleiz and Davidson committed several more robberies in McHenry and Lake counties before the night was through, according to police.
Wegleiz was arrested by Gurnee police on April 26. His bond was set at $1 million and he remains in Lake County jail.
Police are still searching for Shaquille Davidson, according to the report.
