Socialism defines itself

In response to a recent letter, socialism works because socialists say it works. That is how it works. The core basis of socialism is not the redistribution of wealth, it is the notion that "society" defines reality, "the social construction of reality." That is why the Cuban government recently arrested parents who dared to home-school their children. That is why both Sweden and Germany prosecute parents who educate their children at home. That is why truancy laws exist in the U.S. The Chicago school system, dominated completely and utterly by Democrats, graduates students who cannot read or do math. But, they reliably vote for Democrats near 90 percent of the time.
