Police will accept old, unwanted prescription drugs Saturday

Several suburban police departments Saturday will accept unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs for disposal as part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Take Back program.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., agencies will accept old pills and patches, though not liquids or needles.

Participating departments in the Northwest suburbs include Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect and Streamwood, who will offer the take back service at their police stations. Buffalo Grove and Palatine police will also accept old meds at the Mariano's stores in their towns.

Last fall, Americans turned in nearly 460 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites.
