Baseball: Unger's hit lifts Schaumburg over Hoffman Estates
Joe Unger's two-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Ryan Walker and Tyler Robinson with the tying and game-winning runs as Schaumburg defeated Hoffman Estates 4-3 in Mid-Suburban West baseball action Thursday.
Unger had 2 hits in the game for the Saxons (6-3, 2-0) and made a winner of relief pitcher Peter Kandefer.
Hayden Carlson and Jim Kliver had 2 hits and an RBI each for Hoffman (1-10-1, 0-2).
Hersey 3, Elk Grove 0: James Denten fired a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Huskies (7-5, 1-1) won in the MSL East. Will Adamski (2 hits), Luke Picchiotti (2 hits. 2B), Hunter Luke (RBI) and Trey Schmidt (RBI) led Hersey at the plate. Zach Schwartz and Shane Crimmins had the only hits for Elk Grove (4-5, 1-1).
Fremd 5, Conant 0: Tom Cermak belted a 3-run home run and Victor Fujiu allowed just 2 hits in 5 innings of work to lead the Vikings (4-6, 2-0) to the MSL West win. Austin Higgins (2 hits), Ryan Kiolbassa (2 hits) and Matt Wingen (2 hits, 2B) also contributed for Fremd. Teague Conrad had 2 hits for Conant (2-9, 0-2).
Buffalo Grove 11, Meadows 6: Carter Giedhill (3 RBI), Jimmy Cisneros (2 RBI) and Riley Rundquist all homered for BG (6-3, 2-0) in its MSL East win. Matt Brunelli and Connor Adams (2 RBI) added doubles for the Bison and Dan Pockington picked up the win on the mound. Joe Marcucci (2 hits, RBI) and Javonte Warrener (2 hits, 2B, RBI) lead Meadows (2-8, 0-2).
