Letter: Trump undermines our democracy

Based on President Donald Trump's self-declared exoneration of all charges of Robert Mueller's Report, dismissing any evidence of his guilt on other matters that may lead to impeachment, the onslaught on America's democracy apparently continues now in force.

Trump's Department of Justice, in a total reversal since the release of the report, declared the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional despite congressional passage, relieving millions from affordable health care insurance with no equivalent replacement.

What's next? Gun manufacturers emptying their reservoirs to millions of Trump's emboldened supporters? The restoration of Confederate monuments and statues? A record upsurge of white on black tyranny, reminiscent of antebellum times?

International despots can see a more energetic effort to destroy what vestige of democracy their governments had before the election of our 45th president, now that the leader of the world has set the pace.

Vladimir Putin, in muted reverie in his visit to Stalin's gravesite, told him he had it all wrong to destroy America from without, that it would come, with his assistance, from within.

This is now unprecedented isolation from traditional allies, ultranationalism in the raw. Once an empire at its zenith, there is nowhere to go but to destruction.
