Chicago man accused of fleeing DuPage courthouse just before jury returned guilty verdict

A no-bond arrest warrant has been issued for a Chicago man accused of leaving the DuPage County Courthouse Wednesday just before the rendering of a guilty verdict against him in a 2018 aggravated fleeing and eluding case where he traveled up to 120 mph along I-88.

Judge Robert Miller issued an arrest warrant against Kary Bush, 37, of the 6000 block of S. Oakley Avenue, when Bush failed to return to court while the jury deliberated after the conclusion of evidence and closing arguments in his case. Bush was free on $5,000 bail before the no-bond warrant was issued.

The jury deliberated for roughly 30 minutes before returning its verdict.

"The allegations that (Bush) decided to leave the courthouse just prior to a jury returning a guilty verdict are outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "His alleged actions, coupled with the fact that (Bush) was out on bond while his case was pending demonstrate this defendant's complete disregard for the rule of law. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and I am confident that Mr. Bush will be apprehended and find himself once again in a DuPage County courtroom where he will be held accountable."

According to original court documents, Bush sped away from an Illinois State Police trooper about 1:10 a.m. on April 7, 2018, in a 2004 Pontiac and was subsequently charged with aggravated fleeing, aggravated speeding, driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane use and improper overtaking on the right.

After the conviction, Bush faces one to three years in prison.
