Famous organist to perform at Elgin Lenten concert series April 7

On Sunday, April 7, H. Ricardo Ramirez will present a concert of sacred organ music at 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Elgin, 256 E. Chicago St. Ramirez is the director of music and organist for the Cathedral of the Holy Name in Chicago.

Born in Eagle Pass, Texas, Ramierez trained at Notre Dame, Southern Methodist University and the Eastman School of Music in New York.

He is noted for his interpretation of French organ music and, in his own compositions, introducing and integrating the themes and folklores of Mexico with modern musical styles.

At First Congregational, Ramirez will play selections from Bach, the French composer Jehan Alain, Samuel Barber Maurice Daruflé and his own composition, "¡Viva Viva Jesús Mi Amor!"

At noon Good Friday, April 19, the "Return to Me" choral service will be based on the Stations of the Cross with music by Taylor Scott Davis. It will feature the FCC Chancel Choir, cellist Dorothy Deen and pianist David St. Germain.
