When and where state troopers have been hit this year
Already this year, 14 Illinois State Police patrol vehicles have been hit by passing vehicles as they were stopped along a road with emergency lights flashing. That's already more than the total for either 2017 or 2018, and it's on pace to more than double the five-year high of 27 from 2015.
Twelve of those crashes left a trooper injured, and one claimed the life of Trooper Christopher Lambert of Highland Park.
