Illinois Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America to host 'Spring Fling' March 30

The Illinois Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America will host a "Spring Fling," a fundraising event that will include a fun night of dancing, music, and optional team trivia. The night will also consists of late-night bites including a cash bar to raise awareness to Huntington's disease.

The "Spring Fling" will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Arlington Lakes Golf Club, 1221 S. New Wilke Road, Arlington Heights.

Dress is casual attire. Cost is $50 per person. Full registration is 100 percent tax deductible. For tickets, visit hdsa.donordrive.com before 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28.

Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person's physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. Each child of a parent with Huntington's disease has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes the disease.

Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of Huntington's disease are described as having ALS, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's - simultaneously.
