Police: Stranger approached child in Downers Grove
Downers Grove police are investigating a suspicious incident Saturday involving a man who reportedly approached a 9-year-old girl in a residential neighborhood.
According to police, the girl was roller skating near the intersection of Prairie and Lee avenues about 5 p.m. Saturday, when the driver of a small gray SUV parked nearby and got out of his vehicle.
The man appeared to check the vehicle's trunk then began walking toward the girl without saying anything to her, police said. The girl went home and reported the incident to her parents, police said.
The driver was described as a white man in his 40s or 50s, about 40 to 50 years old with gray hair and wearing glasses.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Downers Grove Police Department at (630) 434-5600.
Police say parents should review stranger danger practices with their children. Children should also be instructed to run home or to a familiar house or school and get help immediately if approached by a stranger. The police should then be called as soon as possible.
