Saint. Bede School Students Continue to Demonstrate Academic Excellence.

February 19, 2019 - Saint Bede School students continue to demonstrate academic excellence while participating in many community-wide academic competitions. Saint Bede School was formally recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School under the category of "Exemplary School," meaning these schools are among the nation's highest academic performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Here are four recent examples of how Saint Bede School students continue to demonstrate academic excellence.

First, the Patriot's Pen, VFW-sponsored annual youth essay national competition for sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students. The contest gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. Maya Sarwa, 8th-grade student, entered the VFW Writing Contest and won first place at the local level, where she was awarded a $200 scholarship from the Post and a $50 scholarship from the Auxiliary; Maya advanced on to the regional level, where she won third place.

Secondly, the Carmel Catholic High School Entrance Exam. Siona Mishra, 8th-grade student, scored in the 99th percentile. Less than 1% of students accomplish this. She has been offered a $1,500 scholarship.

Thirdly, the Rick Riordan's Scholastic sponsored "The Making of a Myth" writing contest, Lilly McKinney, 8th grader, entered a narrative piece about discovering one of her parents is a mythological god. Lilly was one of 10 runners up she'll receive a library of books valued at $90.

Lastly, the Catholic School Division of the Catholic Textbook Project's Essay Contest. Seventh and eighth graders were asked to choose a non-North American historical character who lived between 300 A. D. and 1900 A.D. and relate how that person influenced the time and place in which they lived. Eleanor Rebmann, 7th grader, has been selected as the winner of the 7th/8th Grade section. Eleanor wrote about Queen Nzinga's role in leading her Angolan people to freedom in her essay "Nzinga, Queen of Ndongo-Matamba." You can read her essay here:
