Applications Open Now for D214 Foundation's $40K+ in Scholarships
The District 214 Education Foundation is offering $40,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors this spring, including specific opportunities for students pursuing a career certificate in the trades; females pursuing careers in STEM or law; students demonstrating leadership and involvement at specific schools; and our annual Redefining Ready! competition that asks seniors to tell the world, in a 30-second video posted to Twitter, how they are college, career and life ready.
Awards range from $500 to $8,000 in postsecondary funding.
District seniors are encouraged to visit the new online Scholarship Portal at d214.smapply.io to complete a brief profile, which will alert them to all scholarships for which they are eligible. The scholarships can then be completed entirely online, which Foundation officials hope will spur even more entries.
"There are so many incredible scholarships available that were created and funded by alumni, community residents and others who believe strongly in our District 214 students' success," said Erin Brooks, Executive Director of the Foundation. "These awards were launched as tributes to individuals, and as votes of confidence in the futures of our graduates. We are hopeful all our seniors will review the options. These awards truly will fund futures."
The deadline for all applications is Tuesday, April 2, 2019.
Among the new scholarships this year is the Blueprint Bosch Vocational Scholarship, which will cover in full a career certificate in areas like welding, HVAC, plumbing, machining, automotive technology and carpentry through a two-year college. The intent of the scholarship -- funded by the Bosch Community Fund and believed to be the first of its kind in the region -- is to give the award to at least one student in each comprehensive District 214 school.
Returning this year is the popular Redefining Ready! Scholarship, conceived by the Foundation in line with the Redefining Ready! movement -- focused on the belief that students are more than a single score they earn on a single test. Applicants for the scholarship must post a Twitter video declaring their intended career pathway and telling the world in 30 seconds or less how they are college, career and life ready beyond a test score. Five awards are given.
