Juvenile charged with making online threat against Downers Grove South

A male student at a Lisle alternative school has been charged with posting a threat on Snapchat directed at Downers Grove South High School.

The student appeared at a detention hearing Tuesday during which the minor was ordered to be placed on home detention lockdown.

Downers Grove police received information Monday through its anonymous tip system regarding a threatening Snapchat post directed at another person whom the defendant believed to be a student at the school.

An investigation into the post led by the Downers Grove Police Department led to the minor as the person who allegedly posted the threats. Neither the victim nor the defendant are students at Downers Grove South High School.

"These school threats must stop," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "For teachers to teach and students to learn, it is imperative that students and teacher alike not fear for their personal safety while at school. As I have said in the past, any threat or even the hint of a threat to our schools will be fully investigated and anyone suspected of such behavior will be held accountable."

The minor has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct - threat of violence at a school. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27, in front of Judge Robert Anderson.
