At Home opens new Lake in the Hills store

Home décor superstore At Home opened its fifth suburban site Friday in the long-vacant former Dominick's in Lake in the Hills.

The Plano, Texas-based big-box retailer also has stores in Aurora, Elmhurst, Geneva and Schaumburg, and 181 stores nationwide.

"As we strategically grow our national footprint, we are excited to open our fifth store in the Chicago market," Chairman and CEO Lee Bird said. "Our vast selection of on-trend styles is winning over home décor customers who want it all: value, variety and an inspiring, hands-on shopping experience."

The 83,835-square-foot Lake in the Hills store, at 101 Randall Road, is based on a warehouse model offering more than 50,000 items, including furniture, mirrors, rugs, art, housewares, and tabletop, patio and seasonal décor. On average 400 new products arrive each week, officials said.

"At Home strives to have the widest selection of home décor items, and we are dedicated to inspiring you to refresh, play and experiment with home décor that reflects your unique personality and style," Lake in the Hills store director Briana Barbosa said.

Dominick's closed in December 2013. The site had been eyed by many developers, including three retailers who backed out of deals to fill the former supermarket before At Home came around. At Home renovated and expanded the roughly 72,000-square-foot former Dominick's building, which it is leasing from Phoenix-based U-Haul International.

U-Haul purchased the 8.5-acre The Centre at Lake in the Hills shopping center at Randall and Algonquin roads for $5.05 million in an online auction. The property includes At Home, adjacent in-line shops and an outlot strip building. U-Haul plans to dedicate a portion of the site for self-storage and retail sale of U-Haul materials.

At Home will have an open house beginning 9 a.m. Feb. 16 and give away gift cards to the first 50 people who visit the new store and sign up for Insider Perks. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
