Barrington survives in 3 OTs
It took three overtimes but Barrington's girls basketball team was able to get its fourth win in the Mid-Suburban League West with a 56-52 win at Palatine on Wednesday night.
Junior Shanna Turczynski led the Fillies (8-15, 4-3) with 16 points, followed by Taylor Thompson (12), Sydney Granby (10), Laura Mahlum (9) and Anna Mae King (7).
"I was really proud of our kids to pull this game out," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "I feel like they were gutsy and worked hard to stay together. We had three starters on the bench in the final overtime (two fouled out and one injured). The kids off the bench did a great job. It was a nice team win."
Top scorers for the Pirates (6-17, 0-7) were Melanie Simon (11), Kayla Miotk (10), Madi Stark (10) and Amy Vitulli (9).
Rolling Meadows 40, Wheeling 33: Host Rolling Meadows (17-6, 5-2) was led by Susannah Holifeld (11 points) while Lily Greifenstein, Alexa Davis and Mallory Brand each chipped in 7 points each in the MSL East win.
Nosa Igiehon had 15 points for Wheeling (10-14, 1-6) and Sophia Stanke added 6.
Glenbrook South 59, Prospect 45: Prospect (13-6) was led by Kayla Byrne (11 points, three 3-pointers), Helen Siavelis (10), Jessica Kowalczyk (9) and Ashley Adams (9) in the nonconference game in Mt. Prospect.
Marist 63, St. Viator 39: St. Viator (18-6, 2-3) was led by Joy Bergstrom (8 points). Nora Ahram (4 rebounds, 4 assists), Emma Morrisey (2 rebounds, 3 assists) and Natalie Krause (2 rebounds, 1 steal) each had 7 points for the Lions in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Willows 43, CLA 42: Willows Academy hit a last-second layup to edge Christian Liberty Academy. Julia Wolke (12 points), Annika Dinkelman (10) Audrey Law (7) and Megan Ng (6) led CLA.
