Jazz pianist Matt Peterson to perform Jan. 27 at St. Charles library

On Jan. 27, the St. Charles Public Library's Sunday Concert Series will host award-winning composer and pianist Matt Peterson.

The performance will begin at 2 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room on the mezzanine level of the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Peterson will perform songs by jazz composers Duke Ellington, Horace Silver and Herbie Hancock, and explore the roots of jazz with the ragtime music of Scott Joplin.

Peterson holds a Bachelor's of Music in Music Composition and Piano Performance from Wheaton College, where he studied both jazz, classical and composition. He holds a Masters in Music in Jazz Piano from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He is an accompanist at the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, a private lesson instructor, and the staff organist at All Souls Anglican Church in Wheaton, as well as an in-demand classical and jazz performer in the Chicago area.

Peterson has composed extensively for live theater productions, films, and jazz groups. He contributed original music for the internet series JellyTelly, by Jellyfish Media, LLC. Other credits include an original score and piano performance for a New York stage production of "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams.

His albums "The Paradise Suite" and "The Bridge" are available on iTunes and CDBaby.

Since 1981, the library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is welcome and the concert is free to attend. This performance is funded through donations to the St. Charles Public Library Foundation.
