Letter: Carbon Dividend Act offers hope on climate
There have been bills introduced in Congress to do more than study climate change. One is the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act introduced jointly by Republicans and Democrats in both chambers.
This proposed legislation is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 40 percent in 12 years, while stimulating the economy.
It returns 100 percent of net revenue from fees on fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas directly back to U.S. citizens in equal shares, as monthly dividends, to spend as they choose.
It protects U.S. manufacturers with a border carbon fee on imported goods, a refund on U.S. exports, and an exemption for U.S. farmers.
If enacted, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act would avert the health, environmental, political, and economic impacts of climate change before they become unstoppable.
