Geneva's Third Street to be closed during Women's March Jan. 19

The Kane County Coalition of We Can Lead Change will be sponsoring the Women's March Fox Valley at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in downtown Geneva that will require parking restrictions and street closures.

Signs will be posted Friday, Jan. 18, in the 300 block of James Street and along Third Street from James to South streets that will prohibit parking from 2 a.m. to noon Jan. 19.

The event will begin with a rally in the parking lot behind the Kane County Courthouse at 10 a.m. followed by a march south down Third Street at 10:30 a.m.

Geneva police will close Third Street to vehicular traffic shortly before the march begins.

Parade organizers have estimated attendance will be between 3,000 to 5,000 people.

Participants planning to attend the event are encouraged to park in the Third Street commuter parking deck or public parking lots around the Geneva Train Station.

Parking maps are available under the "For Residents" tab on the city's website at www.geneva.il.us.

Parking is free on the weekends.

All downtown streets will be reopened to traffic by noon Jan. 19.

Motorists looking to avoid the downtown road closure are encouraged to use Route 31 as an alternate route.
