Prince of Peace UMC Receives Grant

The Prince of Peace UMC "Food for Kids" food backpack program began at Byrd Elementary School in September, 2017. The first distribution of 25 backpacks to needy families was made over Labor Day weekend and each month thereafter during extended weekends throughout the 2017/18 school year.

The program's goal is to help feed these needy families over long weekends or breaks when the students are not receiving free breakfast and lunch at school. Students take the backpacks home, which assists families that may not have transportation to and from local food pantries.

Food for Kids continues into the 2018/19 school year. The most recent Food for Kids distribution included backpacks filled with: Box of pancake mix, large box of cereal, two jars of peanut butter, two boxes of mac & cheese, two cans of chicken, one canned ham, mashed potato mix, can of peaches, can of green beans and cookies.

Prince of Peace UMC is grateful for the assistance and support of other Elk Grove faith communities and service organizations over the past 16 months. Most recently the Elk Grove Rotary Club presented Cerna Rand, Pastor of Prince of Peace, with a $1,000 grant for the Food for Kids program. Thanks to this and another generous grant from the United Methodist Foundation, the Food for Kids program will be expanded to include larger distributions to more families.

Prince of Peace UMC is at Arlington Heights Road and Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village.

Prince of Peace welcoming statement is: "Believing in God's inclusive love, we welcome all into full participation in the congregation, regardless of age, ability, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith background, family configuration, or socioeconomic status."
