Signal Hill, NSDAR, Concludes Another Year of Community Giving

Members of Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, of Barrington recently completed their 2018 charitable year of giving to local area recipients. During the course of the year, Signal Hill distributed over $20,000 to other 501 (c) (3) organizations, whose missions support DAR's mission of education, historic preservation, patriotism, conservation, and Native American issues.

This year's recipients included Lake County Honor Flight, honoring veterans and providing transportation to and from Washington D.C. to explore various veterans memorials; Citizens for Conservation in Lake County; the USO, providing funding for veterans meals; Barrington White House, fulfilling a grant request for docent costuming; Mindful Waste at Smart Farm, educating youth in student conservation with a garden and summer day camp activities; providing underwriting for new computers for Ela Historical Society; conserving an historical ledger in the collection at Bess Bower Dunn Museum of Lake County; partnering with the Barrington Area Library for education programs; donating to the Harper College Promise Scholarship; and to GEMS, sponsoring a girls' confidence program for low income elementary school girls in the area. In addition, the Chapter provided collected goods toward Stand Down, a program to help homeless veterans in the Chicago area.

The Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, raises funds throughout the year and distributes to 501 (c) (3) organizations, whose missions support DAR's mission of education, historic preservation, patriotism, conservation, and Native American issues. The chapter was founded in 1972, and is dedicated to preserving history, promoting patriotism, conservation and historic awareness in our community, and securing America's future through better education for children. Membership is established through approval of documentation of direct lineage from an American Revolutionary War Patriot.
