Vernon Hills Queens host a blanket fundraiser

Miss Vernon Hills Madeline Gutierrez, Junior Miss Vernon Hills Haley Kalinowski, and Little Miss Vernon Hills Jayla Wascow hosted a fundraising event in December at the Vernon Hills Golf Course.

Each year, the Vernon Hills Queens organize and host a tie-blanket making event, inviting all past and present queens in Lake County.

With the help of their friends and families, this event was a total success!

This year, all the blankets made were donated to the PADS (Providing Advocacy, Dignity, and Shelter) Center. Located in Vernon Hills, it is a homeless shelter to people within Lake County.

This year, a total of 28 blankets were donated! Miss Vernon Hills Natalie Gutierrez handed out goody bags while promoting her platform called "Let's Speak. Girl Power in Speech."

Throughout the rest of her reign, she plans on promoting and teaching young girls the value of public speaking and how this skill can lead to future success.

The 2019 Vernon Hills pageant will be held on Saturday, June 22, at the Sullivan Center. Applications will be available starting Feb. 1 by visiting www.vernonhills.org.
