Two charged with robbing Woodridge, Naperville gas stations
Two young men who police say are responsible for robbing two DuPage County gas stations at gunpoint in November have been apprehended.
According to a news release issued by the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office Saturday, Vyshonne Dawkins, 19, of Chicago, and a juvenile, whose identity was not released, robbed a Woodridge gas station on Nov. 18 and a Naperville gas station the next day.
The release said that about 2:20 a.m. Nov. 18, two men wearing masks held the clerk at the Woodridge gas station at gunpoint and took money and cigarettes before fleeing in a waiting vehicle. Circumstances of the Naperville robbery were similar.
A joint investigation by the Naperville and Woodridge Police departments led to the arrest of Dawkins and the juvenile on Friday. The getaway driver has not been found. Dawkins has been charged with two counts of felony armed robbery.
Dawkins appeared in court Saturday, where bond was set at $2 million. He is being held in DuPage County Jail. His next court date is Jan. 22. The juvenile will appear at a detention hearing Sunday.
In addition to the cases in DuPage County, the defendants are also suspects in similar cases in Mokena, Tinley Park, New Lenox, Joliet, Lockport, Indian Head Park, Romeoville, Darien and Lisle, according to the news release.
