Teen's body discovered near Vernon Hills railroad tracks
A 15-year-old boy whose body was found near railroad tracks in Vernon Hills likely was struck by a train, officials said Friday.
Vernon Hills police have uncovered no evidence of foul play, according to a news release.
The teen's body was discovered about 4 p.m. Wednesday on the west side of the Canadian National tracks near Sullivan Drive and Basswood Court. A Canadian National employee in a passing train spotted the body and called authorities.
An autopsy was conducted Friday afternoon by the Lake County coroner's office. The teen suffered blunt force injuries, and officials believe the teen was hit by a train. The results of toxicology tests are pending.
