Rolling Meadows a 'perfect 10' vs. Streamwood

The No. 10 seemed to be the working number for the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team on Wednesday.

Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky watched his team hit 10 3-pointers, hold Streamwood to 10 points in the second half and have 10 players score in a 67-33 triumph over Streamwood at the Libertyville Winter Tournament.

The Mustangs (14-3) finished pool play at 3-0, gaining them a spot in Thursday's 2:30 p.m. championship game against host Libertyville (13-4, 2-1).

"We are super excited," said senior guard Lily Greifenstein, whose 19 points helped lead the Mustangs past Vernon Hills in last year's title game.

Greifenstein scored 15 points on Wednesday, including three 3-pointers.

Classmate and backcourt partner Alexa Davis also had three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points.

"We kicked it up (defensively) in the second half," Greifenstein said. "That was our main goal and we held them to 10 points so we did well in that aspect."

"We keep asking our kids to give more defensively," Kirkorsky said. "And in the second half, we stepped up defensively."

Offensively, Moira Hickey and Kristen Dillon each chipped in 6 points while Susannah Holifield, Elise Kowalski and Alison Sellergren added 5 apiece.

Peyton Hedger led Streamwood (4-12, 0-3) while Vivian Sumoski (two 3-pointers) and Alexis Rojas each had 8.

"We came out with a good game plan," Streamwood coach George Rosner said "We played well at the beginning. But then we made some huge mistakes otherwise it might have been a single-digit game at half (instead of 36-23)."

Junior guard Mandy Mien fouled out late in the third quarter.

"When she fouls out, that's when we have problems," Rosner said. "In the second half, they just wore us out. They're a really good team. When they had an open 3-pointer, they hit it and if they didn't, they got the rebound."
