Schaumburg trustee candidate dropped from ballot

Though three Schaumburg village board candidates survived objections to their nominating petitions Thursday, one other was dropped from the April 2 ballot for not filing a statement of candidacy.

Leon Mangum had been an announced candidate for trustee, one of three planning to run on a slate with mayoral hopeful Nafees Rahman.

But Mangum will no longer be on the slate or the ballot after his nominating papers were submitted unbound and without the required statement of candidacy.

Schaumburg Village Clerk Marilyn Karr said that without a statement of candidacy and the binding of the papers, a nominating petition is considered invalid even without a third-party objection.

Rahman said he and some members of his slate had been caught off guard by the early filing period for a potential primary election in Schaumburg. But he and fellow slate member Rocco Terranova had their number of signatures deemed sufficient by the village's electoral board this week.

Independent trustee candidate Scott Felgenhauer was also kept on the ballot over an objection that the way he bound his papers together with two large binder clips did not meet the usual standard.

The other mayoral candidates in the race are longtime Trustee Tom Dailly and newcomers Sunil Shah and Matthew Steward.

Other trustee candidates vying for three available seats include incumbents Mark Madej and George Dunham, zoning board of appeals member Brian Bieschke, and Dhitu Bhagwakar who is another member of Rahman's slate.
