Rolling Meadows' Christie earns MVP choice

Sophomore Max Christie of Rolling Meadows is the Daily Herald's boys basketball MVP for his efforts last week.

Max Christie, Rolling Meadows: One of the most sought after sophomores in the country continued to show why last week when he hit for 32 points (7 rebounds, 2 blocked shots) in a 64-57 win over Wheaton Academy then came back with a sizzling 51 points in a 78-76 overtime victory against Elk Grove.

Dan Filippone, Antioch: The senior guard, who was called up to varsity midway through his freshman year, was honored for scoring his 1,000th career point when the Sequoits hosted Badger. He then scored 15 points in a 59-50 win, and he wasn't done for the week. His 34 points led the way as the Sequoits improved to 7-2 by outlasting Grant 60-59 in double overtime.

Patrick Mayfield, Burlington Central: This 6-foot-5 guard demonstrated once again why he is one of the Fox Valley area's most prolific scorers in a 78-37 victory at Richmond-Burton. The senior scored 29 points - he entered the game averaging 29.9 - hauled down 7 rebounds and made 4 steals. Mayfield shot 9 of 14 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range to draw within 19 points of 1,000 for his career.

Luke Sgarbossa, Lake Park: Sgarbossa led the his team to a pair of victories. First came a 65-63 triple-overtime DuKane Conference win over St. Charles North featuring 31 points from the 6-foot junior guard. Sgarbossa added 19 points in a 60-45 win over Rockford Lutheran. He had 10 rebounds and 7 assists in the two games.
