Mundelein forms historical commission

Mundelein officials have agreed to create a special commission to oversee the local Fort Hill Heritage Museum.

A nonprofit group called the Historical Society of the Fort Hill Country had overseen the museum, but it's been without a leader since Mundelein resident Dottie Watson died in September. Last month, group members petitioned the village board to create a volunteer commission to take over that role.

The board on Monday unanimously voted to create a seven-member commission. Members will be appointed by the mayor and board. Applications are being accepted at village hall.

The museum is in a former train depot at 601 E. Noel Drive. The building and land are owned by the Mundelein Park District.
